xDiversity Project
Ochiai Yoichi (Research and Development Center for Digital Nature, University of Tsukuba)
Research Term:2024/04–2026/03
By using a variety of avatars (teleoperated robots and CG characters), everyone, including the elderly and disabled, will be able to freely participate in various activities with abilities beyond those of ordinary people, expanding their physical, cognitive, and perceptual abilities. They will be able to work and study anywhere and anytime, reducing commuting time while increasing leisure time. Our research and development efforts are focused on creating a society where everyone is able to recognize and connect with each other and live better, together.

Hiroshi Ishiguro received a Ph. D. from Osaka University, Japan in 1991. He is currently Professor of Department of Systems Innovation at Osaka University and Visiting Director of Hiroshi Ishiguro Laboratories at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute (ATR). Additionally, he is Project Manager of MOONSHOT R&D Project, Thematic Project Producer of EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (2020-), and CEO of AVITA, Inc. (2021-).
Our activities at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation will include conducting field experiments with robots and creating a space where we can talk with the general public about social norms in a human-avatar, symbiotic society. I invite visitors to the museum to join us in this initiative.
