A Miraikan-exclusive Partner Robot has emerged at the “Hello! Robots” Permanent Exhibition. Using mascot-robot technology developed by Toyota Motor Corporation as a base, we have developed an original character design, with unique behaviors to communicate with visitors.
The Concept: Growing Together
Keparan has a self-regulating posture and shows pleasure or displeasure when seeing message boards and other items. Though the robot’s newness is evident in the current setup, going forward we plan to develop it to include a variety of different behaviors and emotional expressions, incorporating visitors’ ideas in the process. Keparan provides us with an opportunity to consider the relationships between humans and robots.
Robot Performance: Keparan's Dance Time
The Miraikan-exclusive Partner Robot, “Keparan” performs a three-minute dance routine set to music for museum visitors. The robot dances to “Nanairo Colorful,” the theme song for the Permanent Exhibition “Nanairo Quest—The Stories of the Future of Living with Robots.” Controlled by more than 30 motors mounted throughout its body, the robot demonstrates bipedal walking, standing on one leg, and smooth movements in rhythm with the music.
