Partner Robot “Keparan”

A Miraikan-exclusive Partner Robot has emerged at the “Hello! Robots” Permanent Exhibition. Using mascot-robot technology developed by Toyota Motor Corporation as a base, we have developed an original character design, with unique behaviors to communicate with visitors.

The Concept: Growing Together

Interacting with Keparan

Keparan has a self-regulating posture and shows pleasure or displeasure when seeing message boards and other items. Though the robot’s newness is evident in the current setup, going forward we plan to develop it to include a variety of different behaviors and emotional expressions, incorporating visitors’ ideas in the process. Keparan provides us with an opportunity to consider the relationships between humans and robots.

Robot Demonstration: Keparan Ondo

This participatory robot demonstration invites you to dance with Keparan to an original song, “Keparan Ondo.” How will your feelings toward Keparan change as you dance together to the rhythm of the Bon Odori Dance? This demonstration is to be enjoyed by people of all ages, both children and adults. I imagine a future where you live together with robots!
