In addition to environmental problems such as climate change and loss of biodiversity, the foods you eat are also linked to complex issues including societal inequality, which is tied to food insecurity, obesity, and other problems. As the global population continues to grow, so does awareness worldwide that all of us need to make sure our foods are sustainable and healthy for both humans and the planet.
With this in mind, in Mirai can NOW Part 8, Chikyu-meshi - Tasty, Healthy, Earth-friendly, we’ll introduce you to Chikyu-meshi, food that is good for both the environment and for humans. Look at the current food-related problems happening around the world, and consider the different things you can do to help in your daily life. Can you come up with a Chikyu-meshi, that’s the perfect fit for you? As a start, how about preparing a Chikyu-meshi for your next meal? This small step will lead to big changes in the future of the Earth.

How do our day-to-day meals arrive at our dinner table? A look at the long journey from farm to fork, with impacts and issues that usually go unnoticed.
Not just the taste! Different foods, different impacts!
Different foods have different impacts on our bodies, and different impacts on the Earth’s environment. Stack the tiles for 14 different foods and see how they compare.
Not just a waste! Food loss
In Japan and around the world, how much food is being thrown away, and where? What impact does food loss have on the global environment and society? Using trash cans set up at the exhibition, we’ll look at the amounts of food loss generated by families in Japan and in the steps of food manufacturing.
Make, choose, and eat Chikyu-meshi!
There are many different ways to make a Chikyu-meshi. For example, you can swap for a more eco-friendly protein, or reduce the amount of food loss. Come up with a Chikyu-meshi that you can do.
