Humanoid Robot ASIMO

*Due to its popularity, we will add a special demonstration and commemorative photoshoot (advance bookings required) at 10:30 (3/26-3/31).

An event will be held to commemorate the humanoid robot ASIMO’s graduation from Miraikan!
ASIMO, who has been active as a science communicator for 20 years, will “graduate” from Miraikan on March 31, 2022. Accompanying ASIMO’s Miraikan graduation, a special event known as “THANK YOU ASIMO! – Congratulations on graduating from Miraikan” will be held from Friday, March 18 to Thursday, March 31 to express thanks to ASIMO for the 20-year journey it has taken with us. Visitors will be able to look back on ASIMO’s activities at Miraikan thus far, and enjoy a special demonstration and commemorative photoshoot (advance bookings required).

ASIMO first appeared in 2000 as a developmental robot envisaged as operating in people’s living spaces. ASIMO arrived at Miraikan in January 2002 as an interpreter (exhibition commentator and, currently, science communicator). At the time, a company welcoming ceremony was held, and ASIMO was even handed a letter of appointment by MOHRI Mamoru, Miraikan’s first Chief Executive Director.

Thus far, ASIMO has given demonstrations 15,466 times (as of the end of last year). In the demonstrations, ASIMO gave performances that made the most of its functions, such as movements that enabled visitors to picture a future in which they live with robots. How has the environment surrounding robots changed in the last 20 years? Are we nearer to becoming a society in which we live with robots? Why not take this opportunity to consider these questions once again?
