The Future Where There is More Than One "Me"
We are developing "Cybernetic Avatars (CAs)" technologies, that allow us to experience the same sensations received from a remotely operated robot. These technologies can create a society where humans are freed from the limitations of body, brain, space, and time. At Miraikan, while conducting demonstration tests of avatar robots, we also research the ethical and social issues of CAs through dialogues with the visitors.
We investigate an avatar-symbiotic society in which CAs allow everyone to perform active social roles without constraint. By 2050, we will realize a balanced future society where CA technologies enhance our abilities to enable us to have greater freedom in our choice of lifestyle.
Osaka University
Our activities at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation will include conducting field experiments with robots and creating a space where we can talk with the general public about social norms in a human-avatar, symbiotic society. I invite visitors to the museum to join us in this initiative.
