Scenarios | JAPAN
Mochizuki Shun
The work brings introduces the importance of bees in food production, and the often hidden role they play in our everyday lives. Recently, the population of bees has been decreasing due to the change, caused mainly by humans, of the natural environment. The author, who is himself a beekeeper, talks of problems that would follow if bees disappeared, and shares his feeling of the importance of protecting the environment that he felt while working with bees.
Motivation behind this scenario
Pollination mediated by bees is essential for food production, including vegetables and fruits. However, in Japan, the declining number of bees has raised concerns regarding agricultural production. The decline is thought to be caused by the change in environment resulting from cities development and other human activities. In the scenario, the author, who is a beekeeper, introduces the importance of bees by giving examples of their connection to our everyday life, and shares his belief that protecting bees and their natural environment would bring happiness to many people.
