Gentle and Friendly AI

Open Lab: "reco!" ―the relationship started from touching AI

A trial experiment of viewing the permanent exhibitions together with the artificial intelligence (AI)

Let's take part in the trial experiment of viewing the permanent exhibitions together with the artificial intelligence (AI) "reco!"

This is a trial to create, together with you and other visitors, a user-friendly artificial intelligence that is available for people when needed.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an intricate part of our daily lives. So, let's say it is perfectly natural to have AI installed in the automatic vending machines in town; in that case, what kind of AI would be good? What about AI that has personalized conversations with people..., can it reduce loneliness and isolation? This trial aims to develop AI that is "by our side" and create new value in a future where AI is a familiar feature in life. This trial also uses AI to help create a social community where you can feel safe and have peace of mind.

We will ask all participants of this trial some simple questions about what you thought of the exhibitions, and some aspects of your personality. You can answer using the AI "reco!" that is set up in the exhibition venue. The more data we collect, the better the AI we can create - one that quietly protects us, and encourages us to notice new things. Please take part in this trial, while imagining a future in which people and AI build connections together.

*What is the Miraikan Open Lab?
The Miraikan Open Lab is an open area for researchers and citizens to conduct experiments to create advanced science and technology. Located in Miraikan, the Lab collects a wide range of data from citizens and also encourages communication between citizens and researchers, who, together, are advancing research that incorporates a variety of perspectives.

*Miraikan Focus
This trial will be held as a related event of Miraikan Focus, which is a key theme of Miraikan - to link science and society. This year, Miraikan is holding various events and exhibitions on the theme of artificial intelligence and society in the future, with the title of "Hello AI World! What is artificial intelligence? And what kind of person am I?" This trial will be run as a part of the Miraikan Focus activities, and it aims to develop AI that is there for people when needed and implement it in society.
