The number of visitors reached 10,000,000 on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, 10:50 a.m.

On Wednesday, August 20, 2014, Miraikan welcomed the 10,000,000th visitor since its opening in 2001 and held a ceremony to celebrate this record.
The memorable 10,000,000th visitor is Ms. Niina Takaya (18 years old) from Sayama City, Saitama Prefecture.

At the anniversary ceremony, Mamoru Mohri, chief executive director of Miraikan, gave her a commemorative certificate and flower along with a memorial item in the form of a gold miniature toilet contributed by LIXIL Corporation, which provides special support for the special exhibition. Mr. Mohri expressed his appreciation, stating "I would like to say 'thank you' rather than 'congratulations.' I hope you will make a lot of discoveries that will change your world through experiencing science at Miraikan."

The ongoing special exhibition titled "Toilet?! Human Waste & Earth's Future" had been visited by 100,000 people by Friday, August 15. The number of visitors increased to approximately 117,000 by yesterday. Mitsuura-Onchi, an official "Feces Ambassador" for this exhibition and a popular character on the Fuji Television Network program "Mecha Mecha Iketeru!," was also present at the ceremony and handed out the super-popular feces-shaped hats and other original goods.

Ms. Takaya is a first year university student who wishes to be a dental hygienist in the future. Mentioning that this was her first visit to Miraikan, she said, "I was so excited when I saw the picture of the special 'toilet' exhibition with my friends. I left home at 8 this morning. We would like to take our time to enjoy the whole exhibition."
