Guest : Gen. Jugderdemidiin Gurragchaa (Former Astronaut, Adviser of Mongolian Academy of Sciences)
General Jugderdemidiin Gurragchaa, first Mongolian astronaut and former Minister of Defense and his guests visited the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan). Mongolia's first science museum is currently in preparations to open in the nation's capitol Ulan Bator in 2012. This visit was arranged in answer to Mr. Gurragchaa's request to see what know-how Miraikan has accumulated over the years in managing science museums.
In his meeting with Chief Executive Director Mamoru Mohri, Mr. Gurragchaa enjoyed their discussion on the essentials of running a science museum. Thoughts were exchanged on such detailed issues as human resources and budgeting. Mr. Gurragchaa talked about his wishes to create a science museum mainly for 15 and 16 year-olds, focusing on space sciences. He expressed particular interest in the Experimental Classes Miraikan holds for school organizations.
After the meeting, Mr. Gurragchaa left his autograph at the ISS Exhibition, and gazed rather nostalgically at the many portraits of past astronauts displayed along the Oval Bridge. He also observed the Geo-Cosmos and the SHINKAI 6500, and was very generous in offering autographs to some elementary school children who came up to him. Miraikan holds high hopes for further dialogue and exchange with Mongolia's first science museum.
