Scenarios | PHILIPPINES

The Raya School

This is a work focusing on the problems indigenous people face, such as deforestation. The team behind this scenario hopes for a society where diverse ethnic groups coexist, and introduces topics such as their need to reclaim their rights and their desire to continue living close to their family and friends. The problems of indigenous people is not an issue that only the Philippines must face, it is an issue that must be addressed on a global scale.

Motivation behind this scenario

In the Philippines more than 100 ethnic groups exist and more than 170 languages are spoken, making the Philippines a truly multiethnic country. The Constitution of 1987 declared, for the first time, that 18% of the total population of the Philippines was officially characterized as indigenous, which was about 13 million people as of 1996.
Nevertheless, due to the development of resources, building of dams etc. the lands of those indigenous people are being taken from them. They get exploited financially, and due to discrimination they do not have the necessary access to society’s services. Due to the aforementioned reasons, problems like inadequate education for children living in villages suffering from poverty occur.

Movie | JAPAN

In the Philippines there are indigenous people who wish to continue living with their friends and family. Even though their land is being taken from them and their languages are threatened with extinction, they have maintained a strong will to have their culture survive. They have never forgotten to smile either. Are the people living comfortable lives in big cities happier than them? "It is possible that our happiness today is built on someone else's sacrifice". If you feel this way, will you hold the hand that extends from the Geo-Cosmos in order to create a happier Earth for everyone?
