01: The starting point of MEGASTAR becoming one of the permanent exhibits>

The beginning of MEGASTAR’s The Road to a Permanent Exhibitiongoes back to MEGASTAR’s opening event, “A present of the starry sky” held on Christmas 2002. When director Mohri, who is also an astronaut, saw the starry sky formed by 1.7 million stars, he took a deep breath. His memories of the shining stars twinkling without the influences of the atmosphere that he saw from the space shuttle were revived vividly.
“This is real,” director Mohri murmured to himself.

With the mission to share the latest science and technology to many of people in a understandable fashion, Miraikan has the concepts of, “The sharing of scientific creativity and activities among people is our focus,” “People experiencing science will hopefully create a resonance of excitement,” “New and stimulating encounters with the world of science,” “We will support researchers by becoming an open and accessible research hub” etc., to “sympathize with reality.”
Director Mohri was surprised that Mr. Ohira’s past activities and the concept of MEGASTAR explained by Mr. Ohira exactly matched the concept of Miraikan.

“I want to pursue MEGASTAR’s new possibility which projects the starry sky with surprising reality. Is there anyway to make this one of the permanent exhibits?”

With the joining of the staff members of the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation that were also fascinated by the starry sky of the MEGASTAR along with director Mohri, the consideration of the possibility of making it one of the permanent exhibitions with Mr. Ohira had started.

Now the project team is set.
