In this exhibition, the "beach animal" works created by the Dutch artist Theo Jansen, will be introduced from a scientific perspective. The "beach animal," which goes to the size of 12 meters at the most, is composed of wood, PET bottles, and plastic tubing and moves like an animal when it is exposed to wind. Through this remarkable art work, which acts like an artificial organism, we will think about the possibility of the life forms of the future and, as a consequence, the true nature of life.

At this exhibition, we will exhibit 13 "beach animals" including new and old ones. Starting with the "Siamesis" (9 meters) which will be exhibited for the first time in the world, 2 of the large-sized works and 2 of the small-sized works (4 meters) will show its graceful and riveting movement at the event site. In addition, 9 pieces of his previous work will be exhibited and we will approach the true nature of life, thinking about the evolution of life as we consider the evolution of his art.

Born in 1948 at Scheveningen, the Netherlands, Mr. Jansen majored in physics at the Delft University of Technology. He switched over to becoming a painter in 1975 and began creating his kinetic art work, the "beach animal," from 1990. He has received attention for producing various innovative works that blend art and science.
