The Subaru Telescope and the Mysteries of the Universe

The Subaru telescope positioned at the summit of Mauna Kea in Hawaii is the world's largest single mirror telescope and has the highest performance. Various projects and the achievements of research conducted through the Subaru telescope are introduced. Also, visitors can play with a game which simulates the observation procedures used by researchers.

Study of Elementary Particles and the Universe with a Particle Accelerator

The forefront of research on elementary particles, the smallest unit which comprises a substance, will be introduced at this display area. The equipment utilized to see the most miniscule elementary particles is called a particle accelerator, which is the biggest experimental device on this planet. Please feel the greatness of its scale through this animated presentation. Furthermore, with the "Accelerator Simulator," you can experience the virtual reality of an accelerator experiment.

Neutrino Observations

"Super-Kamiokande" is a unique research facility located 1,000 m underground designed for the detection of a mysterious elementary particle, the neutrino, from space. As we introduce this method of detecting the neutrino with its 1/10th model and the photomultiplier tubes, Japan's leading neutrino research methods and results are introduced.
