The original special exhibits, etc., of the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation are rented to domestic and international science museums and various organizations.
'Fear Experiment: Science in "Haunted House"'

Objects which move without being touched. Sounds heard even though there is no cause. Things that are seen even though they could not be real. People tend to feel fear when things, which normally aren't suppose to happen, inexplicably do. In this exhibition, we will unravel various unnatural phenomena that generate human fear by using cutting-edge science such as physics, chemistry, biology, etc. Why do phenomena such as poltergeists, ghostly rappings, death candles, and astral projections that have been thought to be caused by ghosts happen? Is transmission with the spiritual world possible? What do the "world's first ghost photographs" taken by scientist show? We will answer various questions on ghosts from a scientific point of view.
"Your Future, Your Future Self - A journey into picture books with Satoshi Kako"

It is a Special Exhibition for all generations to engage in communication as the baton is passed down from Japan's representative author of picture books, Mr. Satoshi Kako, to the parents and to the children that will live in the future. We will look back on the history of our existence from the time of evolution and look at the present state of humanity which was created by "human behavior." We will think about what lies beyond and our place in the future as we convey the bright vision which cutting-edge science foresees.
"It's a Tasty World - Food Science, Now!"

"Eating" equals "Living." Eating is an important action that sustains our lives and forms our body and minds. To what degree is our knowledge and our selection regarding "our diet" correct? Mechanisms about how we sense flavor, the preservation technology of food, mass production technology which supports the world's population and problems related to BSE... In this exhibition, we will focus on various problems and questions related to food today through hands-on exhibits and will take our approach through cutting-edge science and technology.
6.8 billion's Survival - Living, with Emerging Sciences -

Hot food and challenging jobs enhance our busy everyday lives. Yet the expansion of such a fulfilling lifestyle creates various problems such as the depletion of resources, an energy crisis, and global warming. Now, the world's population at over 6.5 billion and growing, can future generations survive? Miraikan presents an experience-based "survival training program" exploring the frontiers of science as a human survival tool and will consider the 4 themes of energy, food, living environment, and tools.
Exploration of TIME! - TIME! TIME! TIME!

Exploration of TIME! features various concepts of time with diverse perspectives. Focusing on time viewed from life science, the exhibition will illustrate an internal sense of time, such as DNA's body clock, heartbeat of animals, and the relationship between life cycles and planets. Along with the core theme, there are interactive exhibits of time "illusion", the idea of the light-year, relativity theory, and other scientific issues, which will raise questions about the uncertainty of accurate time to visitors.
Termination of the Lending of Exhibits/Traveling Exhibitions
UNDERGROUND - a new vision for the earth* Lending terminated

In your daily life, do you think about what exists beneath you? The underground world is a vast, unknown and unexplored frontier comparable to the universe. This traveling exhibition "UNDERGROUND - a new vision for the earth" illustrates this unknown world with clues from the latest research on one of the last frontiers. The exhibition invites you to the deep darkness under your feet, which we hope be a chance to think about the earth and consider the grand scale of time it encompasses.
Love Stories - Why you are not alone.* Lending terminated

Love tends to be discussed through emotions and feelings, "LOVE STORIES - Why you are not alone." will offer a scientific perspective in which to view love. With topics from the latest research in life sciences and information sciences, this exhibition will provide the audience with an opportunity to ponder about love as a simple life form to preserve our species, as well as intellectual, social life form that enhances life. Technology is increasing our choices in our life, shaping the future of love. The audience may discover that love is to find a partner to foster life and culture.
"Beyond Fibers"* Lending terminated

After the holding of the "Beyond Fibers" Exhibition at Miraikan in the summer of 2004, the exhibition was recreated as a traveling exhibition starting 2006. The exhibit, as it was being upgraded, traveled to 17 places including 3 overseas sites. We had approximately 84,000 people (including the number of visitors of this event) experience this view into cutting-edge fiber technology. Starting April 2010, this Special Exhibition was donated to the Faculty of Textile Science and Technology of Shinshu University and has become a permanent exhibit there. In the future, the Faculty of Textile Science and Technology of Shinshu University will continue to implement the enlightenment and the diffusion of cutting-edge fiber technology embodied by this exhibit.
