A commemorative ceremony was held on October 22 (Thu.), at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation as it welcomed its 6 millionth visitor since the opening of the museum in 2001. The memorable 6 millionth visitor was Mr. Hiroki Hamaoka (16 years old/1st grade student of Kagawa Prefectural Sanbonmatsu Senior High School) who was visiting from Kagawa prefecture.

At the commemoration ceremony, which took place on the 3F exhibition area near the symbol exhibit "Geo-Cosmos," a certification for the 6 millionth visitor, flowers and Miraikan's original goods such as the "DNA Extraction Kit," and an autographed copy of the book "Moma's Mars Exploration," written by Chief Executive Director Mohri, was presented in front of Mr. Hamaoka's classmates who celebrated this event.
Mr. Hamaoka visited Miraikan as a part of a study tour for his science and math class and explained the reason behind his visit: He hoped to gain excitement and new impressions by seeing firsthand Japan's real cutting-edge science and technology. Also, he explained how great he felt about becoming the 6 millionth visitor as he was surrounded by his classmates.
Director Mohri said, "To welcome 6 million people in 8 years since the opening of the museum means that we have had a remarkable number of visitors. We strongly hope that those in the younger generations will find something which interests them here and that Miraikan helps them foster those interests."
