- Public Symposium "Miraikan Forum 2010 - The Future: Reclaimed through Science and Technology - Reservation necessary
The National Museum will welcome its 10th year in 2011. Since the museum will welcome its milestone, a public symposium "Miraikan Forum 2010 - The Future: Reclaimed through Science and Technology -" will be held on October 2 (Sat.), 2010.

The capsules and parachute of "HAYABUSA" which actually traveled to space and back will be exhibited and the grand journey, which took as long as 7 years, will be recounted.

Venue: 1F Symbol Zone- "Discovery through a Camera!!! The world will change if you change your point of view" PHOTO WONDERLAND
This event allows you to experience the wonders created by changing your point of view and your ideas, such as observing scenes from a different perspective by looking through a lens and using the digital camera function.

Venue: 3F Science Library- Pre-event for the Return of Asteroid Explorer "HAYABUSA" "Welcome Back to Earth, HAYABUSA!"
Right before the retrieval of the capsule with the samples in it, which will be the first time in the world such an event has been attempted, we will hold a lecture meeting chaired by Australian and Japanese researchers as we connect live with the The National Science and Technology Centre of Australia (Questacon).

Based on the concept of the "First Sunrise of the Year: the Sun, and the Opening of the New Year," the VR Theater "4D2U - spacewalk -" will be presented in a manner different from its usual context. What will the first sunrise of the year at Miraikan be like? Please come and experience this event.

It is an event which allows you to learn and enjoy the wonders of science and technology in common usage through digital image processing technologies such as printing and printed materials along with the entire family. Also, you can learn about Earth's environment and its diversity of organisms.

The main characters of the story are a young man and a woman focusing on the scientific research of the moon and the research of "Taketori monogatari (The Tale of the Bamboo-Cutter)." Based on the keyword "KAGUYA," they share their deep curiosity as they exchange the latest worldly views of both science and ancient literature which they have discovered and enjoy.

3F Science Library and Permanent Exhibition Area- MEGASTAR-II Titan "A Shooting Star that Never Vanishes"
This content will introduce the International Space Station, which you can see with the naked eye, and the constellations that can be seen during this season under a sky illuminated by 5.3 million stars projected by the MEGASTAR-II Titan which includes those stars that are usually invisible.

Let's contemplate the concepts behind Nobel Prize winning science at Miraikan! We will introduce the Green Florescent Protein (GFP) and elemental particle, world renowned award-winning ideas, through the dual experiences of hands-on exhibits and Science Mini Talk events.

The Earth Lounge series, which is based on the concept of "thinking about the Earth under the symbol exhibit Geo-Cosmos," introduces unique projects that focus on the great theme of our planet Earth each year. This year, we will provide an opportunity to have visitors feel the earth through new parameters such as through interaction among diverse people and projects. These include researchers of marine science deep sea drilling who aim for the untouched depths of our planet, Earth and planetary research projects that attract attention for unraveling the overall history of Earth, and rappers and graffiti artists who are active on the streets.

Sleeping Chironomids live in the dry areas of Africa. When they dry up, they fall asleep and can bear extreme climate changes from hot to cold and bear solar radiation.

This Special Exhibition focuses on the earth's final frontier, the "Underground, " which is an unknown area that is to be explored by the application of advanced scientific techniques. Through combining perspectives from the natural sciences, humanities and social sciences, we will present the underground world which has been uncovered by scientific exploration and share the world's perception of the underground world that has been depicted in arts, philosophy, sociology and other media.
