Winter Volunteer Event (2013)

This is a regular event planned and run by Miraikan volunteers. This time, the event will be held in the Symbol Zone on the 1st floor and the Science Library on the 3rd floor. Participants can learn about a wide range of science technologies through a variety of hands-on programs. Find a program you're interested in and have a go!

Special Exhibition THE SEKAI-ICHI Opening Talk - "Epsilon Rocket Launched! What the Future Holds"

Japan's new type of rocket, the "Epsilon," was launched this summer. Yasuhiro Morita - the man who led the JAXA project to successfully launch the rocket based on original rocket technology developed in Japan - has been invited to give a talk.

The Experiment Stall is an experiment classroom organized by volunteers to allow visitors to enjoy a wide variety of experiments. The experiments have also been designed by volunteers. Please feel free to participate - no advance reservations are necessary.

Odaiba Motor Festival: Hands-On Engineering Event

The Odaiba Motor Festival will be held in conjunction with the Tokyo Motor Show. At Miraikan, we will be hosting a "Hands-On Service Engineer" program. The program involves assembling and then test-driving an electric vehicle called the "PIUS," and while doing so, you will learn about electric vehicle mechanisms and experience the joy of driving a car you yourself have assembled. There will also be shows explaining car maintenance plus vehicle exhibits.

Dates: November 23 (Sat) to December 1 (Sun) 2013 (Miraikan will be closed on November 26 (Tue)).

Yoji Asai, one of the key players behind the discovery of the Higgs Boson - the only remaining particle predicted by the Standard Model of particle physics to have eluded discovery - will give a talk about the background and the significance of the discovery.

At the festival, children can learn about and familiarize themselves with batteries by participating in a variety of events, such as a hand-made dry-cell battery class, a hands-on energy class, a battery-operated tiger cub race, and a children's true or false quiz (admission free).
